Fennel

For those who enjoy the unique taste of fennel, growing it at home is an option. Though it is often thought of as a vegetable, it can be used in the same way as an herb. The anise flavor gives it that distinctive taste, but this herb requires space since it will have a larger bulb on the end.

You'll need well-drained soil that's in full sun throughout the growing period. You'll need containers that are at least 10 inches deep once the seeds sprout and the seedlings get to be about three to four inches in height. Keep seeds spaced out, with no more than a few every few inches as seeds. Later, you'll need to keep the plants about 10 inches apart. Place the seeds into the soil about 1 inch in depth and keep them moist until it is ready to be transplanted.
